The Kinder Trespass
University brief: create a publication around a ‘sense of place’.
This publication explores the Kinder Trespass; a protest that took place in the ‘30’s in which hundreds of young people trespassed on Kinder Scout in the Peak District with the aim of gaining access to unused land. The trespass resulted in the imprisoning of five people and is now thought of as largely responsible for our right to roam in the countryside.
On the cover I begin with the apology from the current owner of Kinder Scout for what his grandfather put the activists through, then by walking back in time; through legislation, the court case and the reporting of the trespass I aim to bring a new light to the consequences of this historic event, and subsequently bring this reflection to our current times.
